I was clearing out the 700+ emails that had built up in my inbox over the Christmas period (Yes, I did have a nice time off, thanks), mainly from ongoing CCM-L posts and I came across this little gem. I think I already knew about it but this time I had a bit of a play. It is the Free Emergency Medicine Talks, hosted by the Temple Emergency Medicine Program residents, based in North Philadelphia. It is led by Dr. Joe Lex, who was recently awarded the accolade of Master of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine for his contributions to emergency medicine and ED education. He’s also a regular and insightful contributor on the CCM-L list. |
The Free EM Talks site is a podcast repository with one of those Tag list thingies, where the bigger the Tag font, the greater the amount of content there is. And there is a lot of content.
It’s a pretty ecclectic collection of podcasts, with everything from conference talks, research meetings and various clinical and administrative topics. There are also podcasts from the Temple University Grand Rounds teaching session. This is an American site, so there will be some practice differences for us Antipodeans, but it would still appear to be a fairly useful resource. It’s also encouraging that they list amongst their favourite resources, some of ours, such as Life In The Fast Lane, EM Crit and Resus.ME.
They must also have a fairly good sense of humour, because I couldn’t go past their latest book club recommendation from 1883, that they helpfully offered as a freely downloadable pdf: “Excessive Venery, Masturbation and Continence: The Etiology, Pathology and Treatment of the Diseases Resulting from Venereal Excesses, Masturbation and Continence” by William Joseph Howe, who it seems also published “William Joseph Howe’s Emergencies and How to Treat Them” in 1871. What a guy!
