[su_tab title=”What Is It?”]
The 4th Consultant Intensivist Transition Course is to be held at The Blackman – Art Series Hotel, Melbourne, VIC on June 13-15th
The curriculum reflects the needs of new specialists who wish to more effectively move from diligent Senior Registrar to confident Junior Intensivist.
The enthusiastic faculty bring to the program a wealth of experiences that have shaped their own adjustments. The blending of these, with their combined knowledge and skills that include experiential teaching methods, mannikin-based simulation and health management, promise to make this an event not to be missed.
The first course was held in June 2010 and the places rapidly filled. Feedback continues to be positive. More Information About the Course and a Link to Registration.

The course is specifically designed for recently qualified Intensivists who have started work in an Australasian Intensive Care Unit.
The topics are pitched for doctors within the first two years of commencing the transition from Senior Registrar to Consultant.
It will be particularly relevant if you have already encountered challenges such as:
- Interspeciality conflict
- Struggling with work-life balance
- Managing difficult colleagues
- Coping with sentinel events such as a major procedural complication
- Trying to define your own non-clinical portfolio
- Shedding your trainee skin in the department where you placed your first central line
- Defining your own perspective on end-of-life care
- Trying to change something you think is important
- Wondering what your role on a hospital committee is

[su_tab title=”What’s the Feedback?”]
“I attended the second CIT course run in Sydney over three days at the Vibe hotel. The atmosphere was relaxed and the faculty well informed and professional.
How best to sum up the course? Invaluable.
This course helps to start you out on the right tracks as a consultant exposing you to the skills which are not part of the current curriculum and which we tend to ignore in our desire to pass the exam.
The course uses a combination of discussion groups, interactive sessions and role plays to develop ideas and knowledge.
When you start out as a Staff Specialist very few if any people willquestion your knowledge or clinical skills.
Where you may find the gaps and the challenges are in:
Communication, Personality clashes, Management, Continuing education, Conflict styles and many more daily occurrences.
This course aims and succeeds in giving you the tools to cope with your job as a specialist.
The course is not cheap at $2000, but will be some of the best money you invest in your future development.
I hope they develop a course for consultants at 5-10 years out as I would attend.”
