For the third year running, Rob Mac Sweeney has hosted the Critical Care Reviews Meeting in January up in Northern Ireland. This one day conference is building on its own success and that of the phenomenal Critical Care Reviews website. The big trials of 2014 were teased apart by the presenters, the audience and by the some of the studies authors.
Keynote speakers included Niklas Nielsen (TTM Trial), Karen Amrein (VitDAL-ICU), Kathy Rowan (Director of ICNARC, ProMISe), Clifford Deutschman (Sepsis definition working group), Danny McAuley (HARP-2) and Eddy Fan (ECMO in ARDS and Early ICU Mobilisation)
My choice of top speakers, based on information transmission and audience engagement have to be Eddy Fan and local boy Eamon McCoy (Yes, the guy who invented of the McCoy blade).
I sat down with Rob during the lunch break behind the speaker backdrop (hence the sound of music, chat and clinking cutlery in the background) and we talked about the meeting and Rob’s tips for running your first mini-conference.
Rob will be releasing the talks given at the 2015 CCR Meeting as vodcasts through his Critical Care Reviews site over the coming weeks, so sign up for his newsletter if you haven’t already. Maybe think about keeping some time free to travel to Ireland next January too.
