CRRT Workshop – Prismaflex
By Selina Hole
The fourth of four workshops on setting up CRRT. In this video, RNSH’s Clinical Nurse Educator Selina Hole demonstrates how to set up the Prismaflex dialysis machine. The Prismaflex System has the capacity to be used for SCUF, CVVH, CVVHD and CVVHDF.
Prepare to be wowed by how simple the step-by-step illustrated guide makes setting up this complicated, fiddly piece of equipment! For each desired option of renal replacement therapy, replacement fluid and anticoagulation the machine offers a different set of instructions to ensure patients receive the desired dialysis.
Selina and her assistants run through the generic process of programming and then setting up the circuit, including the common traps and how to overcome them. They then provide a brief reminder of dynamics of how the circuit works. The indications and precautions for the different replacement fluid options, such as Prismasol, as well as anticoagulant options are discussed. But remember – different hospitals will have local policies for these so check them out before prescribing any dialysis!
