The image is of Thich Quang Duc, aVietnameseMahayana Buddhistmonk who burned himself to death at a busy Saigon road intersection on 11 June 1963, protesting persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese government. Photographs taken by Malcolm Browne of the self-immolation quickly spread across the wire services and were featured on the front pages of newspapers worldwide. The self-immolation was later regarded as a turning point in theBuddhist crisis and a critical point in the collapse of the Di?m regime. A still photograph of the footage of Quang Duc’s self-immolation (the one taken by Browne) was used for the cover of American rap metal band RAGE Against the Machine‘s debut album which came out in 1992, as well as the cover of their single Killing in the Name. The other image comes from the rage podcast website.
