Professor Steve Webb is a senior staff specialist in intensive care medicine at the Royal Perth Hospital, and the current chair of the ANZICS-CTG.
This is a video of him speaking at the second annual NHMRC research translation symposium in October 2013.
In this talk he addresses healthcare as the product that we are selling, and ways which the community can get the maximum bang (health) for their buck.
Although it is clear that that we should implement health care initiatives that show strong evidence, and not implement ones that have little evidence.
He also reports that there is a significant gap between evidence and practice.
On average, despite research showing that a particular therapy is effective, it takes 10-15 years to translate into clinical practice…
