Two interesting articles from the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine‘s newsletter, “Your Direction”. The first is a series of e-mails written by an ED specialist, Dr Mike Ardagh FACEM, to colleagues while he managed the emergency department in Christchurch during the aftermath of the recent earthquake. The second is an article written by Dr. Malcolm Johnston-Leek, a Queensland FACEM, who spent time moving between a number of small EDs during the Queensland floods along the Lockyer valley.
Both make very interesting reading and, while the main focus is on the emergency departments, it sparks thought about the impact of such events on other critical care areas and the hospital, along with local area networks.
The two articles are presented here as a single pdf file.
